Edmund delights in the indulgences that come with his status: theater visits, fine teas, elegant attire, and long afternoons spent doing little at all. He enjoys the framework of propriety when it frees him from labor, but he is less interested in the power or prestige it might convey. Despite his outward charm and vivacity, Edmund often feels anxious and out of place among other nobles, and tends to avoid the obligations that require him to perform as an aristocrat. He believes wealth and status should exist to allow freedom—to live life as one chooses—and for Edmund, that means savoring every pleasurable indulgence his status allows.
