Edmund delights in many indulgences of his status: theater visits, fine teas, elegant attire, and long afternoons spent in his conservatory doing little at all. He enjoys the framework of propriety as it frees him from common life, but he has little interest in wielding such prestige. Despite his charm and vivacity, Edmund often feels out of place among other nobles, making every effort to avoid the obligations that require him to perform as an aristocrat. He believes wealth should exist to allow freedom—empowering one to live life as they choose—and for Edmund, that means savoring every pleasure his title allows.
